Who is involved?
Individuals and organisations that undertake the roles involved in national touring are located across Australian States and Territories. The main roles are described below. These roles might be undertaken by one person or be conducted separately within a company, or contracted to other individuals or organisations. The descriptions of producers, presenters, tour coordinators provided below are an overview and not intended to be definitive.
Producers make the work that goes on tour.
There are a wide variety of producers within the sector - large and small subsidised companies, independent producers and commercial producing organisations.
Presenters are usually the venues in which the work is seen. There are a wide variety of presenters within the sector. These include large and small venues. It also includes individuals and community presenters who may source a venue or location for a one-off event.
Tour coordinators liaise with the producers and presenters to develop and deliver tours.
There are a wide variety of Tour coordinators within the sector providing a range of different services.
Consortiums of organisations and individuals also form for the purpose of creating and coordinating tours. The catalyst for the formation of these groups includes:
a common location or purpose;
an informal group formed for the purposes of applying for funding of a particular tour.
